Rolls on the Lawn

I had taken a photograph of this old beauty a few months back. It is actually parked on the side lawn of one of the houses in town. Kind of a classy car to be parked on the lawn! The Daily Paintworks challenge this week was to celebrate the "wheel" and how it helps us get around. Okay, so its not how I get around, but... someone else must love taking it out for a spin.

Apple n Bottle on Scale

When I set up this still life, I was drawn to the interesting shadows cast by the light through the bottles. When I got painting, it was challenging to keep clear the subtle distinction between the bottles and their cast shadows. I'm  happy with the results .

Front Row Seat

                                                SOLD

The challenge this week presented by Daily Paintworks, was to paint a seated person. For me, a beach chair pulled way up close to the surf on a scorching hot day... is always the best seat in the house!

Amaryllis

                                               SOLD

The challenge this week from Daily Paintworks was to use "Tangerine Tango," named by the Pantone Company to be THE color of 2012. In truth, I have no idea what the Pantone Company is, nor do I own "Tangerine Tango" as a tube of paint. I did, however, make the color mixing cadmium orange and cadmium red. It just so happened that I had this amaryllis in full bloom on my kitchen table. To my eye, it is this color exactly - beautiful and powerful.

Peggerty's Green Truck

This green truck filled with flowers is headed off to a beautiful home in Garden City, NY. My friend Peggerty commissioned me to paint it as a gift for her brother and sister-in-law. Green can be a tricky color for me, especially when it is in sun and shade as with this shiny truck.  So before I started, I mixed up a few color combinations so I could stay focused. My greens were made from cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, veridian green, cadmium yellow lemon, cadmium yellow light and  cadmium yellow medium.
