SOLD
I have a collection of little vases. This green one is one of my favorites. It was quite a challenge to paint it, today however, as it was close to 95 degrees - quite a scorching start to summer.

Glowing Roses
SOLD
This is the same still life from yesterday. So different, right? The blooms have opened up a bit more, so that explains some of it. However, I think the biggest difference has to do with the color of the underpainting. In this case, I think it was permanent rose or magenta? Can't remember. The overall painting is so much brighter as a result. Makes me think I should be a little more thoughtful about the color with which I prime the gessobord. I usually just pick a tube and go. Ahh, you live, you observe and you learn.

Cluster of Roses
SOLD
I keep thinking that I should really get outside and paint some landscapes plein aire. But I just can't stop painting the flowers from my garden. They are so beautiful and enjoying them in this special way is an absolute pleasure. In truth, the roses should exhaust themselves by mid-July, and then I'll take my easel out for a walk. Until then... more roses!

Soft Roses
SOLD
I am changing my palette a bit and I am happy with the results. I am really paying attention to values, too. For some reason, values get extra tricky for me when I am painting light colors against light colors, in this case, soft yellow petals against a white backdrop.

Rock the Dock
SOLD
Just as you cross over the bridge into Sag Harbor, you come upon one of the celebrated favorites of the village, Bay Street Theater. Their three main stage theatrical productions are perennial highlights of summer, along with the fundraising gala of the season, "Rock the Dock." This year's gala invitation and promotional materials feature my artwork. A special thanks to my friends, Mary, TR, John and my daughter MollyKay for posing as happy party goers for the painting. Check out the final product and get details for the bash here. This painting will be donated for a silent auction the night of the fundraiser, July 21, 2012.

Whisper White Peonies
SOLD
When I was painting this, my studio was completely quite. I wasn't listening to any music, just to the stillness. I realized that by seeing these flowers in silence, they were able to speak to me with a stronger voice.

Peonies Three
SOLD
I've been taking a drawing class at The Hamptons Studio of Fine Art for the last couple of weeks. Instructor/Artist James Albinson mentioned that you do not have to overwork the shadow, better to put the detail in the light. This idea was so helpful to me as I painted these peonies. There are so many little petals and variations of form in this flower, that keeping it simple in the shadow kept the painting manageable and focused. Thank you, Jim!

Peony Blues
SOLD
With all the heavy rain of late, I wondered if I would be able to get any more peony paintings done this season. Happily, this big bloom survived the downpours! There are just a few tight buds left on my plants. I am hoping they will blossom and be willing to pose for me.
