Conca D'Oro, our local pizzeria, has been in business for over 40 years. Word of the restaurant's closing was rumored around town for the past few years, but the official announcement came early this summer. I hear that the new owners are promising to keep the recipes... one can only hope. The look of the business I am sure will change.  So here is my homage to my favorite pizza place and to the wonderful family behind it. They have finally decided "to-go!"

Latham House in Late Spring

The architecture in the village of Sag Harbor, NY,  is breathtaking and of late, my muse. This is the Latham House, built in 1790. It was designed with a residence above and a commercial story at street level. The structure is typical of a Sag Harbor merchant's house of the Federal Period. Today is stands with so much majesty and continues to grace Main Street.

Early Spring Morning, Sag Harbor

This is a recently completed commission of Main Street, Sag Harbor. The challenge here was to get painting before the street filled up with parked cars. That meant getting set up by 6 am. A long run of rainy weather, however, curtailed my plein aire efforts and forced me back into the studio. I finished the painting and delivered it just in time for Father's Day... a favorite town for a favorite dad. 

Old Firehouse

After painting boats for the past couple of days, it was nice to paint something that stood still! This is Sag Harbor's original firehouse. Now longer used in its original capacity, the structure now serves as a museum containing lots of memorabilia from back in the day. At one time, the firehouse also held the town jail in its basement. You can see the door and window indicated on the left side of the building.

Rock the Dock

Just as you cross over the bridge into Sag Harbor, you come upon one of the celebrated favorites of the village, Bay Street Theater. Their three main stage theatrical productions are perennial highlights of summer, along with the fundraising gala of the season, "Rock the Dock." This year's gala invitation and promotional materials feature my artwork. A special thanks to my friends, Mary, TR, John and my daughter MollyKay for posing as happy party goers for the painting.  I found this sweet little house on a back road in Sag Harbor, today. Its magnolia is just starting to bloom. I am continuing to paint plein aire and am concentrating on not "over painting" my subject.

Every time I walk through Sag Harbor, this colorful door catches my eye. The other morning, a bright orange bloom just added to the glory and stopped me dead in my tracks.

Warm Welcome

I've decided to do a little series of paintings featuring the architectural gems in Sag Harbor. This house, which is a retail space now, sits up high on Main Street. When the sun is setting in summer, it lights up the entry way of this old beauty - making for a very warm welcome.

Big Blue Peak

     Lately, I am trying to focus on values and shapes. This gem of a house in Sag Harbor lent itself beautifully to my efforts with its rectangles, triangles, deep darks, luminous middle values and bright highlights.  I'm quite happy with this one.

Crown Jewel

This is the tippy top of my town's municipal building. To my mind, it is the crown jewel of Sag Harbor. It is visible from the bridge when you drive into town, and you can see it from virtually any spot along Main Street if you look up!

Sag Harbor Music Festival

     My artwork is being used to promote the very first Sag Harbor American Music Festival! It should be a wonderful weekend celebrating the talented musicians on the East End of Long Island in one of the sweetest towns I know. I am so happy and honored to be a part of it!
