Rowboat at Day's End

SOLD
The second in my rowboat series. I started on this painting at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I had to paint quickly to keep ahead of the setting sun. The last few minutes of painting called for lots of yellows and radiant violet as the sun lit up the water's surface. A very intense and frenetic experience, and I loved every minute of it!

Boats and Clouds

Purchase information
This is a far cry from the daily 6"x6" oils paintings I have been creating over the past several months. This painting is 30"x40" and was quite a challenge. I have become very accustomed to working to completion in one session. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to come up with the color you used on day one, when it is now day six. I worked from a photograph here. I am excited to try painting this same scene from life in a few months.... as soon as it gets a little warmer and there are more boats in the harbor. I am not sure if I can manage a 30"x40" painting plein aire! but the idea of working beginning to end in one session outside sounds very appealing.

February Seascape #2

Today was day two of painting plein aire at the beach. I didn't get out until late in the day. The sun was actually starting to set and so I had the added challenge of chasing the light. I loved it.

Sails and Raffle

On one of the last evenings of summer, I managed to catch these sailboats just as the sun was setting on Shelter Island. The painting is going to be raffled off on December 11th as part of a fundraiser for the East Hampton Day Care Learning Center.  I love it when my paintings help support important causes and hope this one pulls in some serious cash! If you would like to buy a chance to win this painting and help out an important organization as well,  please visit the day care's website.

Sunset on Front Porch

Have you ever walked by a house and wished you could just go in and have a peek? Maybe stay for a while and have a cup of tea with the wonderful family that must live inside?  Well, that's pretty much the feeling I get anytime I walk down a street in Sag Harbor. The houses are all so sweet you can almost taste them.     SOLD
