These were very unruly tulip buds; so difficult to arrange. Finally, I just let them go and actually liked the way they scattered themselves in the metal urn. I think the free spirited buds juxtaposed with the upright, rigid container ultimately is what made this composition work.

Lilies in White Jug with Pears

I am pleased with the movement of color around and across the white jug in this painting. I feel it  captures the sunlight as it bounces off the books, pears and tabletop. Painting "white" by putting color into it, is a total rush for me. There once was a time when I couldn't even see color in white, never mind paint it. It is wonderful to continue to advance in my ability to really see. Ironically, it comes at a time in my life when I have to wear glasses!

Sunflowers in Sunlight

I love setting up a still life in direct sunlight and then, having a go at it. What a challenge! Perfect, however, for keeping me loose and painterly. Sunflowers are key to this plein aire adventure... they don't wilt in the sun and you usually can get a few days of painting out of one bouquet!
